July 28.  Commandments. The group members discussed. “We hardly hear the word command these days, do we? Is that part of our “rights culture? I can’t even command that the grandchildren go to the shop for me.”  “It’s like laws too. Do we really still respect ‘the rule of law?’ “Laws and commandments are meant to be for the common good and for order in society.  Just go through the 10 Commandments and you will see. We used to know them off by heart. If we don’t obey them there will be this disorder, as we can see. I wonder how many of our grandchildren know the 10 commandments. Catholics or other Christians? ”   

Reflect, share, act. Scripture:   Read Exodus 20:1-17 the 10 Commandments.  In those days God spoke all these words, saying, “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. You shall have no other gods before me.” Exodus 20:1.  Pope Francis: The existence of laws and regulations is insufficient in the long run to curb bad conduct, even when effective means of enforcement are present.  If the laws are to bring about significant long-lasting effects, the majority of the members of society must be adequately motivated to accept them and personally transformed to respond.   LS 211
