October 2. Sunday 27C. At one place they stopped by a massive field of sunflowers that had just come into bloom.  Mom picked one and started pulling off the petals one by one as she used to do as a girl. Instead of saying, “he loves me, he loves me not,” she said, “good news, bad news, good news, bad news.” Then she said, “if I was talking about faith where would it end, good news or bad news?” “Good news,” came the response. “Well, we’ve been taught that the gospel is Good News. But listen to the stories in the Bible and hear how many are about a struggle in society, a struggle between good and evil one could say.  Certainly each of the prophets was constantly preaching that the good news is God’s constant care in an ongoing battle against the bad news of wars and violence, sin and destruction.  The prophets were the righteous men and women of the day. Who are our righteous ones to work together ?

Scripture:  Write the vision down, to be easily read.  See how he tires, he whose soul is not at rights, but the upright man will live by his faithfulness.” Habakkuk 2:2-4.  Pope Francis: A global consensus is essential for confronting the deeper problems which cannot be resolved by unilateral actions of individual countries.  Such a consensus could lead to planning a sustainable and diversified agriculture, developing renewable and less polluting sources of energy and encouraging a more efficient use of energy, promoting better management of marine and forest resources and ensuring universal access to drinking water.
