February 27.  Mike was interested in justice and peace issues in particular relating to upcoming elections. “We all have a right to judge for ourselves who and what is right and wrong in particular cases.  Obeying some commandments is absolutely essential, e.g. don’t murder or rape. It seems that many laws are almost seen to be arbitrary,  e.g. fraud, obeying traffic rules, paying your e-tag. Then there are those that the law does not seem to be able to deal with, e.g. State Capture.  We should all have to stand up for what we believe.  It’s no good complaining about what you see to be the government’s ineffectiveness  and then still vote for them.  ‘Practise what you preach.’  Jesus accuses the Pharisees of not practising what they preach.”

 Reflect, share, Scripture:  The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat, so practise and observe whatever they tell you, but not do what they do, for they preach but do not practise.  Read Matt 23:1-2.  Pope Francis:  Freedom is something magnificent, yet it can also be dissipated and lost. Moral education has to do with cultivating freedom through ideas, incentives, practical applications, rewards, examples and more.  AL 267   The spiritual stature of a person’s life is measured by love, which in the end remains the criterion for the definitive decision about a human life’s work. All of us need to recognize that love takes first place; love must never be put at risk and the greatest danger lies in failing to love.
