September 8.  Mary birthday.  September 8th   Birthday of Our Lady.  Pauline had always made a fuss of Our Lady’s birthday. She liked to make cards or put a flower at her statue and sing “happy birthday” and a hymn.  While they were on their travels she had become more conscious of the poor and especially of beggars. She wondered, “Father Peter tells us to see Jesus in other people.  Would giving something to a beggar be like giving a birthday present to  Mary?”

Scripture: As for me I trust in your merciful love.  Let my heart rejoice in your salvation.  I will sing to the Lord who has been bountiful with me.  Ps 13. Pope Francis:   She is the Mother and Queen of all creation.  She treasures the entire life of Jesus in her heart and now understands the meaning of all things. We can ask her to enable us to look at this world with eyes of wisdom.  LS241.

ECO-TIP AND PRAYER: Eco-spirituality links religion into eco-awareness. Pray and reflect on the prayer of Our Lady herself, the Magnificat  “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my saviour.  ….

MAGNIFICAT

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children forever.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
