October 18.  Land and farming are very tricky questions for people today.  Andries and Thabo were students at the Agricultural College together.  They often debated whether it was to get rich or to work for food security for the people. Andries said, “My oupa warned me that farming is risky today and most farmers don’t get very rich any more. But our farm belongs in our family and I believe we need to make it work.” Thabo’s point was, “Our community has won back our land and I was chosen to go and study farming techniques. I’m proud of that.”  They agreed, “For the good of all our families, let’s make that our mission, to do our very best to make it work.  With good rains, no floods and hopefully no droughts either. Please God. ”

The land of a rich man brought forth plentifully and he said to his soul, “you have ample goods laid up for many years, take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.”  But God said, “this night your soul is required of you and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?” So is he who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich towards God.  Luke 12: 13-21.  Pope Francis: Regrettably many efforts to seek concrete solutions to the environmental crisis have proved ineffective, not only because of powerful opposition but also because of a more general lack of interest.   Obstructionist attitudes, even on the part of believers, can range from denial to indifference, nonchalant resignation or blind confidence in technical solutions.   LS 14. Reflect, share, act and pray.    Am I just to creation in my financial decisions?
