August 3.  Women’s rights.  Rayhab, the social worker said, “In a talk I went to recently it was stressed that good leadership is not based on positional power or status.   Just because you are the CEO or a manager you might be given some deference, but are you really a leader?  In politics and business men are still mostly in leadership.   In churchy matters women might be in the majority in caring for the sick and belonging to sodalities, but when it comes to leadership e.g. on the PPC, we do still find a higher proportion of men.  But that is changing and the issue of leadership has cultural dimensions too that we need to take into consideration.“

The man Moses was very meek, more than any men that were on the face of the earth. The Lord spoke to Aaron and Miriam.  “My servant Moses is entrusted with all my house.  With him I speak mouth to mouth clearly and not in dark speech.”  Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses and said, “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through Moses?” The Lord’s anger was kindled against them and Miriam became leprous.  From Numbers 12:1-13.

Pope Francis. Even though significant advances have been made in the recognition of women’s rights and their participation in public life, in some countries much remains to be done to promote these.  AL 54
