July 23.  Commandments.   Members of the group were sharing.  “We hardly hear the word command these days, don’t we? Is that part of our “rights culture? I can’t even command the grandchildren to go to the shop for me.”  “It’s like laws too. Do we really still respect “the rule of law?” “Laws and commandments are meant to be for the common good and for order in society.  Just go through the 10 Commandments and you will see. We used to know them off by heart. If we don’t obey them there will be the disorder as can clearly be seen.”  

Read Exodus 20:1-17 the 10 Commandments.  In those days God spoke all these words, saying, “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. You shall have no other gods before me.” Exodus 20:1. 

Pope Francis We find it hard to make room for the consciences of the faithful, who very often respond as best they can to the Gospel amid their limitations. We have been called to form consciences not to replace them. AL37.  One authoritative source of oversight and coordination is the law, which lays down rules for admissible conduct in the light of the common good. The limits which a healthy, mature and sovereign society must impose are those related to foresight and security, the elimination of corruption and reduction of pollution by business activities.
