January 15. Jesus saw Levi sitting at the tax office and he said, “Follow me.” The Justice and Peace members asked, “How does God choose or appoint leaders, or does he even deliberately choose?  One can’t help but wonder who does and on what criteria they are chosen?  Is it through having money and status, money spent on election campaigns or being a fiery speaker?   Are there individuals and groups standing for integrity who are chosen? The consequences of State Capture over more than 10 years are still waiting to be addressed within our political system with an impact on the whole country.  Are our leaders capable of responding?  But then, how did Jesus choose his twelve?  Makes one think!”   Becoming an eco-friendly family:  Take responsibility for encouraging everyone to switch off all unneeded electricity.

Jesus saw Levi sitting at the tax office and he said, “Follow me.” When the scribes and Pharisees saw Jesus eating with sinners and tax collectors they asked, “why?” Jesus heard it and said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.  I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”  Pope Francis. A financial reform open to ethical considerations that favours human beings, would require a vigorous change of approach on the part of political leaders. I urge them to face this challenge with determination and an eye to the future. Money must serve, not rule! The Pope loves everyone, rich and poor alike, but he is obliged in the name of Christ to remind all that the rich must help, respect and promote the poor.  EG 58
