September 12. After they had stopped for a meal and taken their left-overs for later Michael said, “Do you ever feel guilty when after a nice meal out you drive home and see poor beggars along the road? It’s all very well to say they should go to a shelter, but there they don’t get burgers and steaks.” “There have always been beggars and those who are poor.”  “But the apostle Paul also complained about it in the early days of the church when at the breaking of the bread, the rich would eat their food and leave the rest of the community to go hungry. That wasn’t right.”  So the others agreed and suggested, “Let us give our take-outs to the poor beggars we meet along the road.”      

Scripture: Paul wrote, “I do not commend you, for when you come together it is not for the better but for the worse. For in eating each one goes ahead with his own meal and one is hungry and another is drunk.” From 1 Cor.11-17.  Pope Francis:   It needs to be said that, generally speaking, there is little in the way of clear awareness of problems which especially affect the excluded. Yet they are the majority of the planet’s population, billions of people. LS 49.

ECO-TIP AND PRAYER:  As a family consider how you can become more conscious of sharing your resources with the poor, like having a family fast day and donating the money saved. Pray “Glory be to the Father……………..
