January 11.  Antonette shared in the family, “I have never liked that hymn, “Follow me, leave your home and family,“ as I used to think that caring for one’s family is so important that they cannot just be abandoned.  Eventually I got to accept that not everyone is called to leave their home and family in order to follow Jesus. St Francis recognised that too that lay people, in families and in the world of work, education or nature or even of leisure play an important role too in following Jesus.  But there are some who are chosen specifically for full-time ministry.  I realise that the Church desperately needs them too.”

Passing the Sea of Galilee Jesus saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen.  And he said to them, “Follow me and I will make you become fishers of men.”  Mark 1:14-20

Pope Francis: by virtue of their baptism all the members of the People of God have become missionary disciples. All the baptized whatever their position in the Church or their level of instruction in the faith are agents of evangelization.  It would be insufficient to envisage a plan of evangelization to be carried out by professionals while the rest of the faithful would simply be passive recipients.
