SPECIAL PRAYERS FOR THIS TIME – to download, print, and keep for use during the month along with pious lists. Families could create a small home altar with mementoes of those they wish to remember and pray for.

COMMUNAL PRAYER FOR THE DEAD.

God, Our Father, we remember in prayer those who have had a special place  in our hearts and in our lives and are now no longer here with us.  We thank you Lord, for the gift of life we have shared together.  We ask forgiveness for the hurts we caused and forgive our loved ones too. Comfort us through the memories they leave us. May those memories give us courage for our journey into the future. Grant them a place of peace and joy in your kingdom where there is no more suffering and grief.  And when each of us is called to depart from this life May we be reunited with them in eternal happiness.    Amen

November 2.  Commemoration of the Faithful Departed. SEE.  Each year a good number of people from the parish went as a group to the cemetery to visit the graves of their own beloved deceased family and friends.  After her husband died, year after year, Beatrice would debate with herself whether to go with them. At first she had felt a need for the company of others, then a remoteness, then pain again, and so until after a number of years she stopped going with them, but still cherished his memories in her heart and messaged her children and grandchildren to remind them too.   JUDGE. Reflect, share, Scripture: We would not have you ignorant brothers and sisters, concerning those who are asleep that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. 1 Thes 4:13.  Pope Francis: “With prayer and interior liberation peace can return in its own good time.” From  AL255.  For those who believe in you, Lord, life is not ended but changed. Our loved ones are not lost in the shades of nothingness; hope assures us that they are in the good strong hands of God. AL 256.   Pope Leo:  St Teresa of Calcutta has become a universal icon of charity who lived to the fullest extent in favour of the most destitute, those discarded by Society.  She dedicated her life to the dying, abandoned on the streets of India.  She gathered the rejected, washed their wounds and accompanied them to the moment of death with the tenderness of prayer   Her love for the poorest of the poor meant that she did not only take care of material needs but also proclaimed the good news of the Gospel to them.  They do not need our pity and sympathy, they need our understanding love. They need our respect, that we treat them with dignity.  DT 77.
