September 4.  The JP and Family groups each brought their own ideas to share. Jonas from Family Life was strong on the need to build strong family relationships but had been touched too by the overwhelming practical needs of the poor, like the needs of those left destitute after the disastrous building fire in Johannesburg on 31 August. His children sometimes complained that they thought he was stingy. Jonas asked, “How many of you feel criticised by your own family when you come up with a different way of seeing things?   Every group, big or small, needs unity and a degree of conformity but we also need to recognise and value our right to be unique and different, or autonomous as some like to say. I think we should make up a parcel to help those poor families“
