February 2.  Presentation of the Lord- Candlemas.  Fr Shaun always kept the spirit of Christmas alive until this feast, 40 days after Christmas which reminds us of Jesus the Light of the World  It commemorates the parents of Jesus coming to Jerusalem for the ritual purification on the birth of a first-born son. Traditions whether religious, tribal or family play an important role in society giving people a sense of their identity.   However, today some traditions are frowned upon as maybe being sexist, racist or anti one religion or another. If they discriminate in some way they can even be hurtful to some.“

The lack of historical memory is a serious shortcoming in our society. A mentality that says, “then was then, now is now is ultimately immature;  knowing and judging past events is the only way to build a meaningful future.  AL 193.  Reflect, share, act and pray.  In the  interest of being loving should families have a choice in what traditions they will keep?” was a question posed for reflection in the prayer group.
