July 24. SEE.   Between the old and the young there is often an affinity about nature, plants and animals.  Grandparents may have more time to share stories about their love of nature with the children and encourage them to grow things.  Little ones will bring a little plant that has grown from a bean seed, or can be encouraged to look out for bees and butterflies.  This relationship is also a special way to share about Jesus and his love of nature.

JUDGE. Reflect and share. Scripture.  Jesus said to his disciples, “ Hear then in the parable of the sower, when anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, it does not take root, and the Evil One comes and snatches away what is sown in his heart.  Matthew 13:18-23. Pope Francis:  the Lord was able to invite others to be attentive to the beauty that there is in the world because he himself was in constant touch with nature, lending it an attention full of fondness and wonder. He stopped to contemplate the beauy sown by his Father and invited his disciples to perceive a divine message in things. LS 97.  Pope Leo: As a believer among believers, I invite everyone to contemplate, in the face of the Son of God, the grandeur of humanity that shines a light also on the era of AI. In Christ, we are called to cooperate in the work of creation, rather than be disinterested observers of technological processes that limit our freedom and responsibility. The dignity inscribed in each of us by the Holy Spirit can also be seen in our capacity to reflect critically, choose and love freely, and form authentic relationships. MH233    

ACT AND PRAY.  Promote strong relationships between grandparents and their grandchildren.  Pray the Prayer of St Francis for grandparents and the elderly.  We pray for God’s blessing on the grandparents and elderly of our families and community,  bless them with peace and contentment and an acceptance that their lives were well spent in service. We ask St Joachim and St Anne, the grandparents of Jesus, to pray with us.
