May 11.   For years Granny Gloria had been an activist about some issue that concerned her. Politics, race, religion all had to do with justice and rights. Her message, “People should have the right to be free in their choices, but they have to consider the common good and treat everyone and everything with respect. This year’s International Day of Families theme includes urbanization as well as migration.  Both of these can create situations that lead to gender-based violence, even trafficking of persons, particularly women. We need to welcome newcomers into our churches and urban communities wherever they come from and give them the support they need to deal with the traumas of their past.”

Scripture.  Jesus said, “the Father who sent me has himself given me commandment what to say and I know that his commandment is eternal life.  John 12: 44-50.   Pope Francis:   Migration is particularly dramatic and devastating to families and individuals when it takes place illegally. It is supported by international networks of human trafficking and involves women or unaccompanied children who may be forced to endure periods in refugee camps. Concern shown to migrants is a sign of the Spirit and serves as a test of our commitment to show mercy in welcoming others to be fully part of our communities.  AL 47-8. Pray.
