October 14. The visiting missionary told the group, “Mission month reminds us that everyone is called to be a prophet, reading the signs of the times and speaking the truth that comes from God and is written on our hearts. Pharisees, are self-righteous religious leaders who do not practise what they preach.  Sadly too, they make demands, even preaching false religion because they have power over people. They kill the Spirit of God and the knowledge he does give to people.  Do our churches and pastors, even missionaries like myself, contribute to this evil or are they helpful in exploring the realities of today’s world for our consideration?”  

Woe to you Pharisees and lawyers, for you have taken away the key of knowledge; you did not enter yourselves and you hindered those who were entering.  From  Luke 11:47-54.  Pope Francis:  Bishops of Southern Africa have stated: ”Everyone’s talents and involvements are needed to redress the damage caused by human abuse of God’s creation.”   All of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation, each according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements and talents.
