November 13. Bryan knew that their own young adult children like so many teenagers had drifted away from the Church after their confirmation. For many of them it is like a church-leaving certificate. They may go back from time to time but often they have not yet found a deep spiritual meaning for themselves. In a way they’ve lost the plot or even lost their faith, maybe the little immature faith they had. At a dark moment in his young adult life, after one of his close friends committed suicide, Jock was invited to participate in a youth camp. He decided to go for the jol but during the course of the camp, speaking to one of the spiritual counsellors, it struck him, that God wasn’t just out there somewhere, but right here in this group. That was a rediscovery for him and the start of a new journey.

Hope speaks of a thirst, an aspiration, a longing for a life of fulfilment, a desire to achieve great things, that fill our heart, lift our spirit to lofty realities like truth, goodness, beauty, justice and love. FT55. Jubilee. It is gratifying to see the energy the youth demonstrate, for example, by rolling up their sleeves and volunteering to help when disasters strike and people are in need. Yet it is sad to see young people who are without hope, who face an uncertain and unpromising future, who lack employment or job security, or realistic prospects after finishing school. Without the hope that their dreams can come true, they will inevitably grow discouraged and listless. SNC10. Act and Pray for compassionate concern for those suffering loss in their families.
