October 22. “Be ready.” This is the Scouts motto drilled into them from their earliest days in the Scouting pack. “Be properly dressed, have your equipment prepared.” The Scouts prepare for an outing or an activity practising a new skill to earn, what we sometimes call, “Brownie points.” But it isn’t only the skill but the whole idea of action, of planning, creating, developing our talents and learning to do all this in relationship too. Our overall task is to prepare for a journey to the Father with Jesus, his Holy Spirit and in the company of the Church. That is the expression and mission of synodality.

Man is presented as a labourer who works the earth, harnesses the forces of nature and produces the bread of arduous toil in addition to cultivating his own talents. AL23. Pray: Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in us the fire of your love, so that walking together we may renew the face of the earth.
