24 October.   A group of economists had discussed the relationship between the environment and economics.  Michael brought up the subject at home. “Do you think we focus enough at an ordinary every day level on global warming and environmental degradation? It seems to be only when water restrictions or drought or floods affect us personally that we take notice.  We must remember that caring and being merciful should also include the care of our world?”

From Luke 12:54-59.   Pope Francis: Pope Benedict asked us to recognise that the natural environment has been gravely damaged by our irresponsible behaviour.   The social environment has also suffered damage. Both are ultimately due to the same evil: the notion that there are no indisputable truths to guide our lives and hence human freedom is limitless.  LS 6.   JUBILEE: Uncertainty about the future may at times give rise to conflicting feelings, ranging from confident trust to apprehensiveness, from serenity to anxiety, from firm conviction to hesitation and doubt. Often we come across people who are discouraged, pessimistic and cynical about the future, as if nothing could possibly bring them happiness. For all of us, may the Jubilee be an opportunity to be renewed in hope.
