16th October. Sunday 29C.  Fr Pius didn’t often bring up his experience as a missionary in other countries as he didn’t want to compare but he decided to refer to two of the Sunday readings as being relevant. There was a persistent old widow who kept pestering a judge to attend to her need.  Isn’t that what is happening in our country here with the poor so often have to persist in having their needs addressed.  What gives them incentives of courage to do so?  At times it could be self-interest but also often a sense of justice that is acquired from studying the Bible and Church teaching and applying it to life.

 Scripture:  In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor regarded man, and there was a widow in that city who kept saying, “Vindicate me against my adversary. Luke 18:1-8. All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.      2 Tim 3:14 -4:2. Pope Francis:    Generally speaking there is little in the way of clear awareness of problems which especially affect the excluded yet they are the majority of the planet’s population. A true ecological approach always becomes a social approach. It must integrate questions of justice on the environment so as to hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.  LS49
