Through the help of the angel Raphael, who appears in disguise and accompanies Tobiah, the demon is killed. Tobiah marries Sarah, the father’s blindness is healed and the family is reunited in harmony ; a happy ending story. The blessing prayer of Tobiah and Sarah is often used for weddings.
“Blessed are you, O God of our fathers. You made Adam and gave him his wife Eve to be his help and support. You said, it is not good for man to be alone, let him take a partner like himself. Now Lord, you know that I take this wife of mine not because of lust, but for a noble purpose. Call down your mercy on me and on her and allow us to live together to a happy old age. Amen.” Tobit 8:1-8. Pope Francis: The Lord’s presence dwells in real and concrete families with all their daily troubles and struggles, joys and hopes. AL314. Points for reflection and sharing. The story includes the role of the archangel Raphael as a messenger from God and one who brings God’s healing power. Are there some family relationship issues that can be healed with God’s help?
