October 6. After they had read the story of the Good Samaritan Dad asked how they could relate it to their own lives today.  Dolly thought for a while and said, “You know some of those refugees Father was talking about fled for their lives with only their clothes on their backs.  I think I can go through my cupboard and find some clothes to share with some of those children. Maybe we could go to St Therese parish with the St Vincent de Paul to visit.”  Paul thought how some people may have been attacked and injured. “Who would have helped them and looked after them?  That is what I want to do one day, but even now I think I should be more sensitive when people are hurt and injured.” 

Reflect, share, act. Scripture:  A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho when he fell among robbers who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead.  Read Luke 10:25-37. Pope Francis:  the parable does not indulge in abstract moralising.  It speaks to us of an essential and often forgotten aspect of our common humanity; we were created for a fulfilment that can only be found in love.  We cannot be indifferent to suffering or allow anyone to go through life as an outcast.  We should feel indignant and challenged to emerge from our comfortable isolation and be changed by our contact with human suffering.  That is the meaning of dignity.   FT 68.   JUBILEE. May the Christian community always be prepared to defend the rights of those who are most vulnerable, opening wide its doors to welcome them, lest anyone ever be robbed of the hope of a better future.
