July 7. 14th Sunday of the Year B. Granny Beatrice had been a strong Justice and Peace member in her parish for many years and had taken on the environmental awareness portfolio in recent years. She had studied Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’ and his other writings and was becoming quite challenging. Saving rhinos is one thing but economic justice is more of a challenge. Some of her own family too didn’t like to hear her say, “Do you know that we all need to adopt the saying, live simply so that others may simply live.”

Pope Francis: The weakening of faith and religious practice in some societies has an effect on families, leaving them more isolated amid their difficulties. AL 43. The Church has a public role over and above her charitable and educational activities. She works for the advancement of humanity and of universal fraternity. She does not claim to compete with earthly powers but to offer herself as a family among families, open to bearing witness in today’s world, to faith , hope and love for the Lord and for those whom he loves with a preferential love.
